We have discovered a new DNA variation that we think may affect T1D risk in individuals carrying a particular type of HLA-DRB1 gene. We aim to look at particular nPOD samples with that HLA genotype to see if they contain our newly discovered variant. If so, we will be able to design a future project to address the potential function of the variant. This is a rapid, exploratory experiment.
