nPOD Partner Organizations

nPOD's success is dependent on its many partner organizations. These organizations assist nPOD with organ recovery and delivery and ensure that research consent is obtained from donor families. Our partner organizations include:

Donor Alliance is one of 58 not-for-profit organ recovery organizations federally designated by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services to facilitate the donation and recovery of organs for people needing transplants. Additionally, Donor Alliance is a recognized leader in facilitating the donation and recovery of transplantable tissues in Colorado and most of Wyoming.

Gift of Life Donor Program, the non-profit agency serving the eastern half of Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware, is responsible for recovering and distributing organs and tissues used in life-saving and life-enhancing transplants. Gift of Life also partners with 150 acute care hospitals to offer families from the state of Delaware, southern New Jersey and the eastern half of Pennsylvania the option of donation.

Golden State Donor Services (GSDS) is the nonprofit, federally designated transplant donor network serving two and a half million people in the greater Sacramento area. GSDS' designated service area includes 11 counties in Northern California, (Amador, Calaveras, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba), as well as the communities of Santa Rosa and Reno.  We are committed to saving and improving lives by connecting one life to another through donation and transplantation. We support potential donor families in their time of loss, provide care for them through the donation process and coordinate the recovery of organs and tissues for transplant. We also provide after-care support to donor families while at the same time working to inspire universal acceptance of donation to ensure every person in need receives the “Gift of Life.”

Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency (LAORA) is a non-profit community service organization certified and regulated by the federal government. The agency obtains organs for clinical transplantation throughout southeast Florida and transports them to transplant centers within the United States. LAORA is dedicated to procuring and fairly distributing organs and tissues for transplantation, providing comfort and assistance to bereaved donor families, educating healthcare professionals and the community about organ donation, and improving transplant success rates by researching innovative organ recovery techniques and preservation technologies.

The Mendez National Institute of Transplantation (MNIT) is a public non-profit organization that adheres to its founding mission: "To advance the science and practice of organ transplantation through clinical research, basic research, and educational programs."

MNIT plays a critical role in identifying donors who have type 1 diabetes-related autoantibodies, but no clinical symptoms of the disease. This is achieved through two serological tests that look for antibodies (GAD Ab and IA-2 Ab) that indicate an autoimmune attack has been initiated and that the insulin producing cells of the pancreas are under siege. Gifts from this group of donors will help scientists study the autoimmune process at the very earliest stages of beta-cell destruction and bring us closer to a cure for type 1 diabetes.

For more than 25 years, LABS has been the market leader in laboratory testing for infectious disease markers, microbiology and immunogenetics.

We focus on performing highly complex, esoteric assays employing the most appropriate, modern technology. We offer a number of custom solutions to streamline our clients' order entry, sample packaging, results reporting and sharing processes.

Other Key Partners

The International Institute for the Advancement of Medicine (IIAM) is one of the largest recovery and placement networks in the world for donated human organs and tissues. IIAM honors the wishes of donors and their families who seek to contribute to medical research. These donations help scientists unlock the mysteries of diseases like type 1 diabetes and facilitate the development of treatments and therapies. IIAM supports the nPOD project through its partnerships with organ procurement organizations throughout the United States.
